When I saw this on the news this morning I reached over and thumped my son (who is 8) on the head. I told him that if I ever, ever heard, was told or saw him treat anyone like this that I would not quit beating his butt. Oh, I get what you're saying, and agree to an extent. The variables are things like seeing my oldest try to save a cricket from getting smashed, hearing him as he stops to comfort a neighbor kid that fell off his bike, asking his teacher if there is anything that he can do to help. Seeing my youngest smack another kid in the nose because he took anothers ball, loaning out stuff and then telling me later he knew when he gave it to the kid he wouldn't get it back "but he doesn't have as many toys as I do so I thought he should have it", and in general acts along those lines.

It may be naive, or arrogant, or whatever label is seemingly fitting at the moment, but I do have confidence in my little guys. And, I'm secure in my saying that we are doing a very good job with out little guys.

As for the statement when applied to the masses, I would still feel that there would be exceptions to the generalization. Just as not all stereotypes are able to be applied across the board.

I know their potential, but I know what they are capable of when left to their own devices. Like the old saying goes... Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
