It looks like some pretty severe detonation to me, which eventually completely destroyed a couple of pistons. It can happen with overheat and continued high RPM use.

Only time ive seen a n/a ls do that...guy was making a topspeed run...and it went lean. Bad fuel pump, clogged filter, low on gas...any number of reasons. If battery died..alt might have taken a shit, then voltage drops...bam.

if he was drunk and racing could it have been staying on the factory speed limiter too long?

It was full of water/pink antifreeze. It was sure to make a big ass mess.

Best bet right here I've seen that on mostly every Chevy motor that weve had to replace to severe overheatingOriginally posted by JC316 View PostIn my case, I think it was overheating. The truck wound up needing a radiator, but they usually quit running long before the pistons melt.

Throw it in my pile of blown up car parts to be hauled off to the scrapper. I've got CV axles, transmission pieces, rims, ls2 pieces, mini cooper parts, etc. Might as well get some LSXXX in there

Those motors have a huge issue with rod bearings giving up and shit goes haywire...

Shitty gas? I wouldn't think a stock engine would just give out but who knows it had a hard life.Originally posted by JC316 View PostI changed the engine in an 01 frontier that had 4 melted pistons. Looking at the condition of the motor (dirt, leaves, etc) I would guess that poor maintenance contributed to the engine's demise.
