This Avenger was badly damaged on a mission to attack Japanese ships in Manila Bay. The gunner, Loyce Dean, was killed and the plane was damaged so badly, that they decided to give him a burial at sea, still strapped into the plane.

An Army B-25 leaves the Hornet as part of the Doolittle raid.
On May 21,1943, an F4F Wildcat missed the arrestor cable while landing on the 2nd USS Lexington. The Pilot attempted to veer off the deck, stalled, and the tailhook caught on a protrusion.
