I've seen somebody do it before! They have a dry break/quick disconnect type system, so it doesn't appear to damage anything as far as I know.

My mom has done it, but that's because it was at a no-self-serve gas station, and they told her all was good and the attendant forgot to take the nozzle out.

Edit: BTW, Comic Sans can suck my dick. I used to have a COLLEGE LEVEL English professor who said Comic Sans was a professional font. Then I had to explain to her that it was designed for comic books because it assisted in keeping the ink from running and making the letters unreadable, and she still insisted that Comic Sans was okay for a professional setting. I did it in my Mom's car on a visit back to Texas a few months ago. Went in to get a drink (non-alcoholic), and totally forgot that I had left the pump going when I got back to the car. I heard it pop off as I pulled away, quickly stopped, and the nozzle was still in the filler neck.

I went in to tell the attendant about it, he was unfazed and said that it happens all the time, and told me to just leave it laying there.

Definitely a moment.
