If it's destroyed, it could only be replaced under insurance that you might carry. If it's defective and is being replaced under warranty, you can get S-on w/ the same utility to root and S-off then run the stock RUU to return it to original "as shipped condition".

As of now, there's no way to tell anything has been done. Besides, if you're sending it in you're gong to want ALL your info off of it and the RUU does exactly that.

Yes brian is the man. I followed this link to the t and had no problems. Then i loaded the cm7 custom rom and enjoying everything about it. Especially the free wifi tether.

...so is it safe to say that my phone being 2.10, this is the only method to use?

also, I've read over on xda that app killers and such have to be uninstalled before attempting a root. is this true?

I dont know about that but you do need to deactivate anti virus's and any malware products

Yes, this is the only way I'm aware of for your phone. As to the app killer, I haven't heard that but you shouldn't be using one anyhow.
