I have a X205 that both GPU and CPU fans went out and it would freak out. Sound would go super slow and graphics would wig out.

Surprise the bottom of your case didn't warp or ripple.

The thermal pad/paste is what I will be looking at. The plate over the GPU and fan is metal, and fairly thick so it neither warped nor rippled, however I'm surprised the rest of the case didn't distort in some way.

It has a thermal pad. Luckily I had a thermal pad from an old video card in a box in my closet that hadn't been used and it seems to have cooled it off a little bit. I ran another temp test and it only got to 100° C this time, which is still hot, but it's usable until work gives me a different computer.
