Don't cry sweetheart. You'll be okay. I don't care if you put your red dot on a barrel clamp past the FSB, if that's what makes you happy. I think that more rail space is definitely the solution you're looking for, and my point with the second statement is that it's not necessary to have a FF hand guard, as distinguished by that vltor piece.

Its not? I wasn't aware that the drop ins would hold their zero over a long period of time. I'm pretty sure they dont. I dont know about you, but I'd much rather have 90 rounds at the range for plinking and 10 for testing my zero instead of spending 20-30 for zeroing it in and a lot less for plinking. But if thats what floats your boat....

If shooting my 16" carbine with a not so free float hand guard makes me look like an idiot on the gun range, then so be it. I'm having fun, that's all that matters. I don't care what the so-called highly trained AR elitist beside me thinks of my rifle. If his AR can shoot the wings off a fly at 300 yards, that's great. I'm not in a battle zone fighting insurgents at 500 meters, nor am I an LEO raiding a drug house. If my drop-in rail is not floating free of the barrel, then whoopty effin doo. Yes, it's merely the tacticool look to me. I got into AR ownership about one year ago with my first AR, an Rock River. Am I behind the times when it comes to AR's, of course. What's appealing to me today, is yesterdays news for you. I'm learning through reading and videos and am having fun at the same time. Happy shooting.

I'd do similar with my next weapon (to the original post). I have FF on my 18" bull barrel AR, and to be honest I don't notice a difference from the A2s I fired.

If it were just a 5-10% price increase, I'd just do FF on everything. Why not? However, cost vs benefits seem null. In my case, my next rifle is going to be all iron sites too.

Now, if my life depended on it every days like Soldiers and Marines clearing buildings overseas - another 100-300 dollars seems like small price to pay for peace of mind. (assuming anti rotation tube...etc)

So that there isnt any more discrepancies, I searched Google for "sight on free float hand guard" and that was the first pic that I saw that was representative to my situation and what I was looking to do.

You must have a crazy ass set of mounts or a non folding BUIS. Almost everyone that I've seen runs the 3x over the top of the rear sight.

And just a heads up: That rail setup is non FF.

Holy shit people are so fucking nit picky. It was to represent the location of the sight, not the rails I want. You seemed confused as to what I was referring to, so I provided an example.

Like I previously stated, the flat top on my A4 is rather cramped with the red dot, magnifier and BUIS. Maybe its the brand, maybe its the placement. Who cares? I stated the reason I wanted the FF rail. Unless there are some actual applicable statements/questions to be made about it, I really dont see the need for any more discussion on the matter.

Why? I know mine is rather cramped with my red dot and magnifier. Free floating rail would allow me to mount my scope on it without losing zero. This is just what I have been getting from everything I have been reading/hearing basically everywhere (mags, arfcom faq, shops, etc)

Nice find it looks like, if I had the money I would be all over this. Thanks for posting.

I want a quad rail but man I just can justify the cost right now, too many other gun goodies I want.

I will agree with you on that. I hadn't planned on building a third AR (still working on the second) but I couldn't pass this up. When the time comes to build the third AR, I'll keep my eyes open for a used one.

The deal that Cabelas has/had on the Smith&Wesson AR for 600 would have been perfect for this upgrade.

Oh, and you're welcome. I'm hoping someone here will also take advantage of this deal and have a renewed interest in their carbines.
