+1, Tony is no doubt a ninja... A ak is a great "survival weapon", just like the ar. People have been surviving off the ak for many years. For close combat situations( like a raid on your house) i will grab my ak. I would want a round that could bust through block with ease.

Sometimes when folks get the jump on you, you dont have time to run and hide, you have to stand and fight. But, they wont get the jump on you because your a ninja.

For someone raiding my house, I have a 12 gauge with 00 buckshot in it which is way better than an AK inside a house raid, but I wouldn't expect you to understand that either.

Every firearm has it's strenghts and weaknesses. The AK may be the greatest battlefield firearm of all time, but that doesn't make it a very good home defense or personal survival weapon.

Since this is now a SHTF thread, i'd say AK for sure. For only two reasons. Within 200yards the 7.62x39 is a superior round. Larger caliber and more energy. Secondly, you might not be able to properly maintain your firearm. What if you dont have any cleaning supplies and there's no end in sight. Water might be the only solvent available. And animal fat your only lubricant. IMO

If that's the case, then you weren't prepared for the SHTF. It is a superior round in terms of stopping power, and that is all.

The addition of wood ashes would allow you to clean an AR.

You asked why you would shoot steel in a survival circumstance. The answer is the gun is designed to use steel. Whether an AR shoots .223 or 5.56 it doesn't have any comparison, both brass.

If you fire .223 out of a 5.56 chamber, the case magically transforms into 5.56 brass.

only if you go gas piston....then you might have the best. The AR platform will give you the best options in sight radius or optics. But if you 7.62 anything why not just go full tilt with 7.62x51 (.308)?
