If starting from scratch I would prefer something chambered in in 6.8SPC, 6.5 Grendal or anything other then 5.56mm.

My guess is a toss up between the Scar, 416, and the Tavor. My best guess is likely the Tavor or the 416 winning.

Agreed. 416 seems best just because of the platform and uniformity. The SCAR is pimp, but pricey if I'm not mistaken. My fav tho is the tav! I want one. Been in love with it since rainbow 6 Vegas . But the tavor is a bullpup so I see this being a close second if they don't want a traditional stoner design.

Consider the french had about 5 revolutions since the original deposing of Louis XVI.

The french foreign legion is much more feared a fighting unit than the actual french army.

I meant civil war, not revolution. Naturally their reputation is reflective of their modern war record. And their quick capitulation to the Nazi's is viewed as particularly negative to the US.
