If barrel life is a concern, the fact a WSM is even mentioned is kind of funny. The times I've competed I'm the only one shooting in .223, which is good for me because I get to pick my class (the reason I chose it). I have not see many 7mm out there. Most are .30 or .338 where I shoot. I don't have much experience with .284's so I can't really comment."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

The wsm and rem mag are a good comparison to the guys that will tout the 300win as the game winner, neither are my choice but to each their own.Originally posted by 5.0_CJ View PostIf barrel life is a concern, the fact a WSM is even mentioned is kind of funny. I shoot a .223 at 1000 yards so I'm the last person who's going to be convinced that .300wm is necessary for long range shooting. My opinion is all the wildcat cartridges - WSM, AI, etc. usually have a shooter who spent too much time picking a caliber and not enough time shooting his rifle. A .308 is plenty capable for competition shooting.Originally posted by dee View PostThe wsm and rem mag are a good comparison to the guys that will tout the 300win as the game winner, neither are my choice but to each their own.
I have a Remington 600 in .350 Rem Mag that I've been considering turning into a long range rifle for the hell of it."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

Just the action or the rifle and caliber itself? Don't most 600's have fairly short barrels?Originally posted by 5.0_CJ View PostI have a Remington 600 in .350 Rem Mag that I've been considering turning into a long range rifle for the hell of it."It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand!"

Yeah it's a short rifle, 16 or 18" barrel I believe. It was sold as a scout rifle for bear. I think it would make an interesting target rifle.Originally posted by dee View PostJust the action or the rifle and caliber itself? Remington 600 - shortest lightest rifle in one of the biggest calibers, recipe for failure.Originally posted by dee View PostI thought so I know my Mowhawk 243 is damn short barreled compare to most but it's the best truck gun made, IMO.
Needless to say it didn't sell well. But, the caliber is sound, a short action rifle with .300wm energy delivery.
