I carry a G-32 daily and have yet to shoot myself or any kids in the face, by accident of course.
I also have never owned or wanted to own a 1911, but it is because they just don't feel right in my hand and price, especially the Colts. Though I really do like the smaller 1911 type guns, like the STIs...Originally posted by SilverbackLook all you want, she can't find anyone else who treats her as bad as I do, and I keep her self esteem so low, she wouldn't think twice about going anywhere else.

Jesus fucking Christ Don. Carry what you want, but this is as stupid of an argument as the "carry without a round in the chamber" discussion.Originally posted by DON SVO View PostMy response was directly towards the grip safety of the 1911, my reponse to Adam's comment was also directly towards the grip safety. It's all I need to not carry one (pistol with a grip safety). Both of my CCWs do not have a grip safety and I wouldn't want to carry a CCW that did have a grip safety. There's nothing else to my comment other than that. If all you have for a CCW is a 1911, at least you have a CCW.

I switch between a 1911 and LC9. If someone shooting me in the hand stops me from being able to defend myself, then they deserve the kill shot.
I had a Keltec that I decided to trade off for the LC9 because I wasn't comfortable having a gun with no external safety in the house with a toddler.

I realize it varies my make/model, but how much pressure does it actually take to depress the grip safety on a 1911? It would seem that if you can't depress it then you might not have enough grip strength to pull the trigger anyway. I've never noticed it taking much pressure on my Colts but I've never consciously thought about it.Last edited by Trick Pony; 07-25-2012, 01:14 PM.Atlantic Blue '00 - '03 Cobra motor and TKO600, solid axle, full MM suspension

My daily carry is also a G-32 and my experience with it mirrors yours.Originally posted by Rick Modena View PostI carry a G-32 daily and have yet to shoot myself or any kids in the face, by accident of course.

My response was to Tony asking how to clear a jam with a hurt shooting hand. How would you clear a FTE if your strong hand was damaged and the perp was still firing at you?Originally posted by CJ View PostThat's even more ridiculous than your first reason.
There's nothing dumb about it. I won't carry a 1911 because of the multitude of safe features that are on it and need to be deactivated. In a high-stress situation (like getting shot at) I want something fast and brainless. I would OWN a 1911, but it would most certainly be a range gun.Originally posted by ThreeFingerPete View PostJesus fucking Christ Don. Again, my comment was sarcastic and directed at situations that can arise in a shootout (and seem to do so with frequency, the '25% of gunshots being to the hands' portion). Specifically, if I am EVER unfortunate enough to be put into a situation where I have to draw on an armed attacker I realize I may very well get hit. I want to be able to not worry about something as dumb as a grip safety, I want to be able to shoot him vitally before he shoots me. It really is that simple, stop reading into it and trying to find what isn't there. I don't like the grip safety. I carry firearms without grip safeties. That's it.Originally posted by PGreenCobraI can't get over the fact that you get to go live the rest of your life, knowing that someone made a Halloween costume out of you. The point of the question was the demonstrate the absurdity of the proposed situation. Just like my proposed situation in which you're hit in the head. If I was that concerned about such an unlikely problem occurring, I'd carry a revolver. We're just giving you a hard time. The only thing you have to do when you fire a 1911, is flip the safety off, hold the gun, and squeeze the trigger. If that concerns you, then leave the safety off and it's the same as your kahr.Originally posted by DON SVO View PostMy response was to Tony asking how to clear a jam with a hurt shooting hand. That is EXACTLY why I bought a PF9....the only safety is ME pulling or NOT pulling the trigger. I didn't want to have to worry about a mechanical safety ACCIDENTALLY switching on (such as that on the Ruger LC9).Originally posted by DON SVO View PostI want to be able to not worry about something as dumb as a grip safety, I want to be able to shoot him vitally before he shoots me. Safety stuff doesn't concern me except for when it hinders my ability to be faster than the other person, if that makes sense. For that reason, I carried a G27 and now a CW40... they're brainless point-N-shoots.Originally posted by CJ View PostThe point of the question was the demonstrate the absurdity of the proposed situation. Exactly Don, my safety is my holster. If I have to pull that bitch out, someone is getting shot.Originally posted by SilverbackLook all you want, she can't find anyone else who treats her as bad as I do, and I keep her self esteem so low, she wouldn't think twice about going anywhere else.

I promise you that dis engaging the safety will not slow down my time from draw to first shot. I like guns with good sights, that point well, that I can shoot well. If a manual safety gives me all of the rest of what i want, then it's a very reasonable feature.Originally posted by DON SVO View PostSafety stuff doesn't concern me except for when it hinders my ability to be faster than the other person, if that makes sense.
