Yes that should work great with the front post. As for the gas key I usually just stake them with a punch.

Headspacing should not be an issue with an ar-15. For the castle nut find one of us that has the tools and get it torqued to spec.

I have one but it's a crummy one and I've had it slip before. I'd feel bad if it was tightening, slipped and marred some part of your receiver. You're welcome to use it, at your own risk.... I'm sure someone here with a nice one will speak up soon. If not let me know.

I have an eotech 512 on mine, and a flip up rear sight. When I want to run irons, I just flip up the sight and turn the eotech off. Piece of cake.

simple compared to soap's shit! if i can find a decent priced optic that works with the front sight i might do that.

do you just remove the red dot when you want to use irons, or does yours flip to the side?

i'm going to run the front post/gas block with a microdot.

so, lower 1/3 co-witness with a fixed rear sight, or absolute co-witness with a flip up rear sight?

When I was doing co-witness, I preferred the iron site below. It helped me with target aquisition, then "fine" tune with the dot. Then if you ever remove the optic your muscle memory is already used to this method.

i think i'm with you on that train of thought. now i just need to decide if i want flip up sights or fixed.

larue tactical makes a good arguement on ar15.com that in a situation where you need your irons asap, you dont want to spend time flipping them up.

but, i would like to use the red dot by itself sometimes with no irons in the picture at all, so i'm leaning towards flip up.

got my rifle to where i want it. still on the look out for a good tactical 2 point, maybe single point sling. this one is not what i thought it was, it's just a shoulder sling.

That looks about as far back as it can go. Any further and when its laid down it will probably be overlapping the CH

i was able to move it back two notches, just spread my fingers a little wider to charge a round.
