Might want to consider the larue picatinny covers that keep your rails from getting bang up and hanging on your clothing.

I got to thinking and wondered if I'm going to have any problems installing this quad rail onto my upper? Is the threaded end of the barrel that goes into the receiver going to be too big to fit through the end of the hand guard that goes against the receiver? If that makes any sense at all.

When I saw keith build his at the build gtg a year ago, he took them out with fairly any difficulty, he just had to heat the gas block to make it expand a bit enough to get the pins out without any difficulty.

they are not too difficult to remove, just remember where each one came from. Like Adolfo said, heat the gas block, knock them out, then heat the gas block again and pound it off the barrel, remove your flash higher, take it off, then remove your foregrip, barrel nut, replace it with the new guard, replace gas block, flash hider.

Here's a little update. I obviously have more to $475 into my AR now but the initial goal of building an AR with iron sights for under $550 was met.

That YHM guard looks good. I'm building a 12.5" tonight with a mid length guard. Should look similar to yours, except the muzzle break will be located where your front sight is.

Wait... let me rephrase. You need to take it off for installation... but you can keep it on without replacing a low profile gas block?

Here's a little update, as of right now I have about $900 into this rifle. I'm considering going with a little lighter rail on it, probably a Samson rail if I do. I'm not 100% sure if I'm going to keep the vertical grip on it, I put it on there because of how hot the rail gets after shooting a couple magazines. Shooting with gloves would probably help, I just haven't gotten any to shoot with. The only other thing I'm thinking about doing is going with a low profile gas block and a flip up front sight or cutting down my current gas block and adding a flip up front sight.

Hey Motoman, you should move your rear iron sight back to the last possible slot maximize you sight radius. Also you may want to play with the position of your optic, typically with holo/prismatic sights the close to your eye it is the smaller the dot will be.
