the owner of that mortgage isn't going to just let it go...even though the mortgage company is out of business, somebody owns that mortgage. it wouldv'e been sold in bankruptcy, etc.

He can posture all he wants, but when the lawyers get their teeth in to this, it will be purely sporting for them; he'd better have a law degree or a genie in a bottle.

Banks pull some super shitty stunts. It's been shown how, in the face of a short-sale offer to purchase, on the table, willing & able to close, they chose foreclosure b/c they overstate the value on a foreclosure to enhance their write-offs. This is not a good vs evil, this is a clever skid boot riding out his 15 minutes of fame, only to have his clock cleaned when the 'deep pockets' take him to task (court)

I bet he doesn't address any of the deferred maintenance common with a foreclosure, but does just enough to keep himself warm & dry.
