It's your blanket statement that's wrong, that Christians take it as an affront to them. I'm a Christian and am not bothered by it in the least. This is America, everyone has the right to be heard if they so choose.

Everybody pushes their beliefs whether they realize/want to admit it or not.Originally posted by Denny View PostSpreading the Word and pushing beliefs are two different things.

Agreed, its the ones the take spreading the word as a requirement to force people into believing that bother me. These are usually the same people that look down on those that aren't as committed or don't believe the same things they do.Originally posted by Denny View PostSpreading the Word and pushing beliefs are two different things.

Spreading the Word and pushing beliefs are two different things.Originally posted by GrayStangGT View PostI grew up going to church, but I wouldn't consider myself very religious. I believe that there is a God and he created the earth, now how it happened who the hell knows. The ads don't personally bother me, they have a right to pay for advertising just like any other group has.
However what do Atheist gain by converting people? Right or wrong Christians feel that God has commanded them to spread the word, so they have a reason to try and convert people. I can't stand someone trying to push their beliefs on me no matter what their agenda is.

Or a simple lack of responsibility. Either way, that still doesn't mean squat to his response to your first post.Originally posted by Avery'sDad View PostWrong. Grew up the whole Christian way. Felt guilty when I first started doubting the faith. Eventually I realized that as a human being I don't need to persecute myself for being a human being. All religion does is focus on something that no one knows anything about. It's mans way of trying to explain to others his rational on what happens when we die. In turn this creates a sort of tunnel vision on the thought process. Once you let go of that you realize your life is much more than that and you should live it and not go through it feeling like a sinner.

THAT'S what I was speaking of by "recruiting".Originally posted by Tx Redneck View PostI would add one more thing to your statement, it as a fellow believer, it appears to me that they're trying to convince themselves and others that they will be alright w/out God when it's all said and done.
By the way, there is a large atheist organization, and they get their money from somewhere. They may not call it "tithing", but they damn sure take donations.

i dont think recruitment is their goal. No church = no tithing = no reason to lie to people to get them in.Originally posted by Vertnut View PostI'm a believer and it doesn't bother me. These signs are simple attention whoring, nothing more or less.

You look too far into not believing in a supreme being. Just saying.Originally posted by Avery'sDad View PostBecause believe it or not there are people who are surrounded by family and friends who don't believe and feel guilty and that they will be rejected by their close knit society. It's these people that the ads are trying to reach by telling them they are not alone and the should not feel the need to be persecuted for being a human being.

I'm just glad I live somewhere that people have the freedom to post this kind of ad. It's an attempt to "stick it" to the Christians but whatever makes them happy.
