They have a baseline premium deducted from our checks, and credits are given back for a high enough, "healthy lifestyle," score, which is determined by a physical and a basic blood panel once a year. I'm fat and out of shape, so I don't get credited anything back.

I don't smoke so I can only look at it from the employer side. To me there is a simple solution, if you choose to smoke the employer should be allowed to single you out and deny providing insurance benefits or make you pay the difference over a nonsmoker. I am 100% for what you do on your own time is your business as long as you show up to work and do a good job, but when it starts costing me money its my business.

This is completely understandable if your company covers health insurance.

Now we have this broad who smokes like a GD chimney and smells of Newports and cheap perfume. It truly is hard to breath around her...word on the streets is she smokes a pack a day.
I work with some Canadians that don't smoke and they have god awful body odor. I can't imagine a smoker smelling near as disgusting as these people.

I smoke only once most days at work and that is when I leave to go to lunch. I guarantee you being a smoker does nothing to my work performance.

My thoughts on the matter is that people need to mind their own business and go somewhere that smoking is not allowed. Simple enough.

I think you're right, it's either Dallas County or City of Dallas employees.

The sun has set on smokers and their "rights", just like it has for unions and their contracts.
