I would touch base immediately, but expect that he won't or can't talk now. You need to be available any time over the next few months, when the reality sets in.

While factually correct, in times like these there is no shame in using a crutch, so long as you have your support group of friends and family to keep an eye on you.

A friend of mine was in a week long custody battle for his nine year old son. The wife has had years of mental issues. Yesterday the court awarded him full custody of his son and the mom lost all visitation rights. This morning 2 police officers and the dad and son go to the moms house to get the kids stuff. The police officers stay outside while the kid goes in. Moments later 2 gun shots go off. The rest of the story breaks my heart.

I don't understand if a woman has lost her rights to be with the kid, why was she left alone with him? Why send officers to the house if they are not gonna make sure nothing happens?

I wanna call him and tell him how sorry I am for his loss. He finally got his son back and lost him again. I can't even imagine what he is going through. I lost my best friend when I was 21 (long time ago) and his moms eyes where purple at the funeral.

We are not best friends, but we have helped each other out in the past. The dad is my sister-in-laws boyfriend. He's one of those people that is nice by nature and is calm to the bone. Not a bad bone in his body.

Should I wait a few days before calling him?

Give him a day or two if he has other family in the area. If not, call ASAP.

I'm of the opinion you should call him right away. Even during the darkest moments of my life when I didn't want to talk to any one, my friends kept me going. Terrible situation.

After hearing this I wrapped my two in my arms and gave them both alot of love. Go see him. A person doesn't need to talk to feel the support that you will provide.

That goes to show the competely irrational thought process of this woman. She lost custody and visitation rights, but that doesn't mean that she can't gain at least some visitation back, if she truly loved her son enough to get her head straight.

If he's truly a good father, he would want his son to know his mom, as long as she wasn't acting looney.

Don't call. Go see him. If he doesn't want to talk just be there. Sit in the room or hang around outside. Bring him breakfast in the morning. If he want to talk, listen. If he doesn't he will still know that he has some support.

This. Bring a 12 pack and just sit with him. Conversation is not necessary. He'll talk when he feels like it.
