Awesome. The P40 is my favorite aircraft. I can say so much but it would be boring to most here. This would give you an idea of what the plane looked like in combat (only certain squadrons would have the shark mouths).

I believe those were the flying tigers which defending china from Japan, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure if they used the mouths on north africa, did they? And this was an RAF plane.Originally posted by 46Tbird View PostAwesome. The P40 is my favorite aircraft. I can say so much but it would be boring to most here. The RAF Desert Air Force was using the sharks mouth in mid-late 1941. News reports showing this were what inspired the AVG to rip off the motif and apply it to their own P40s late that year, and of course they made the shark mouth famous in December when they were fighting in Burma. When the government pays, the government controls.

I thought the flying tigers was a non-associative group of pilots that flew for china, RAF, Army Air Corps, etc.Originally posted by 46Tbird View PostThe RAF Desert Air Force was using the sharks mouth in mid-late 1941. No, they were American pilots and support staff that were were allowed to resign from their US military roles and join to form a mercenary group under Claire Chennault that represented China. The aircraft they flew had Chinese roundrels.Originally posted by 5.0_CJ View PostI thought the flying tigers was a non-associative group of pilots that flew for china, RAF, Army Air Corps, etc.
Really, they were there to defend the Chinese government to thwart Japanese imperialism througout asia. They were clearly American pilots flying American planes to defend an American interest. When the government pays, the government controls.
