Stock = equity. A company's equity has a dollar value, also known as its market capitalization. Each share of equity owns a portion of this value. If a company's equity worth is $100 million and there are 10 million shares ourstanding, each share is $10. Now the company sells 10 million new shares. Now the equity is worth $100 million but there are now 20 million shares outstanding. Each share of this company's stock is now worth $5 instead of $10. This is called dilution.Originally posted by 347Mike View PostI still don't understand what this means. What impact does that have on the company/stock? The stock was down 10% today. Is this a good or bad thing?Last edited by slow99; 06-29-2012, 03:26 PM.
