He didn't have a weapon in his hand. I understand that a lot of people would be so afraid of the perp that they would shoot first and ask questions later, but it's nice to see that a well-trained and prepared cop wasn't. He knew he had the situation under control the entire time.

How was the situation under control? The officer had a gun in his face and the perp acted like it was a candy bar pointed at him.. perp then attacked the officer.. Cop should've at minimum tazed him

He restrained the guy with one hand, carefully holstered his weapon, and subdued him. It sure seemed to be under control to me.

Ok... what if the guy got the officer after he holstered his weapon? very likely situation.. the situation could've changed very quickly.. I'm not saying i would have shot the perp but using mace or a tazer would have disoriented or stopped him withough having to do much fighting

I wouldn't tell the thieves in your area that. I would hate for you to have to prove your position when an unarmed intruder comes at you while you have a gun pointed at him.

IF the cop felt that it was necessary, I would be fine with it. This cop clearly had the experience, training, and confidence to handle the situation without resorting to shooting or tazing the perp.

you're turning this into an entirely different debate. No one's life was in jeopardy here. The cop had it all under control, so there was no reason to kill anyone. On the other hand, in a home invasion/burglary you should do whatever it takes to protect your family and yourself.

I find it hilarious that you have 100% faith in this man that you do not know. Anything can happen, at any time. The guy could have gotten the weapon and began popping off rounds, nothing is guaranteed "under control". So yes, with my family in the store I would prefer the officer had put pressure on the trigger rather than on the suspect. That guy signed his death certificate when he attacked an officer that had his weapon drawn on him. And if he is the superman you say he is, then he could have made sure it wasn't a fatal wound.

I'm not saying the officer did not do a good job. I am asking why you so interested in preserving the privileges of a criminal over the others in the store who were not infringing upon others rights?
