I didnt read the thread but I can contribute to it with my recent car hunting experience on CL.

I am looking for a used car to drive around town and save on gas. Long story short...a majority of the sellers are scum bags.

- Posting old pictures of the cars for sale. Car looks different in person.
- Lying about the condition of the car
- I have seen proof that odometer fraud is happening (idiots are not even waiting for the original sale ad with high mileage to come down before posting their ad with the same car with less mileage)
- Lie about being the second owner when you google their phone number they have a history of selling 10+ cars in the last 60 days.
- My favorite: doing something to the fuse so the check engine light wont come on at all, even when just turning key to ACC. This has happened to me 3 times.

I guess I'll just have to sign up for a car fax account. $60 but it will save me some headaches.
