To take from police and fire is a bad idea....if you disagree then next time you get robbed, mugged, in a wreck, burglarized, assaulted, suicide in progress, murders, doa don't call 911 just handle it yourself and see how well that goes....sad sad sad see a city do that to the men and women who answer the call...from who ever and wherever it comes from for what ever reason...you call 911 we come no matter what the risk and danger it puts use in...sorry for the rant.

Yea, I have heard that before. If you take a promise from a politician and use that to plan your future then you are an ass clown of the highest order and I have no sympathy at all. The city should do its best to follow through but if it goes bankrupt then you are just like anyone else who got fucked by their employer.

Exactly. In a business, it doesn't matter what you promise, when you run out of money, you're out of money. They either take what you can afford or move on. Oh, and our combat pay qualifications changed as soon as Obama got his hands on the DoD. That was changing our contracts.

Except thats not what they signed up for. They signed up for a 40k a year job with retirement and some benifits. They're having their pay cut by 70% and (probably) losing their retirement. Just like Frost signed up to go to the asshole of the planet for 20k a year to lug a 80 lb backpack around and get shot at, he thought it was worth it when he signed up. Unfortunatly he got fucked up, BUT he is getting a disability retirement and medical for that. NOT that they make it all better but he is getting care. When he signed up he had to know that was a possibility. Should he not be upset about everything that happened to him? I think he has a right to but from reading your comments it doesn't sound like you do.

Ok so there wasn't an active war but you don't join the military without knowing you could go to war thats part of the job. And there were rumblings of stuff going on. The USS cole bombing was only 10 months earlier. And most of the rumblings came from the Middle East.

Not at all. However if they aren't on a call or on duty, that car should be parked. My 'fetish' with cops is this: We were trained to treat Iraqis with utmost respect and had so many rules put on us that if they got hurt fighting US, we had to stop and treat them. Had an incident where a guy wouldn't put down an AK and when we took it away, the front sight post cut his palm. Our medic came over and bandaged him up.

Meanwhile, in the US, where we have constitutional protections, cops routinely violate those rights and injure, kill and destroy citizens and their property. And more? They aren't usually disciplined. Things that would be a felony if I did it are considered worthy of "administrative leave" and then nothing. Shoot someone because you kicked in the wrong door? 2 weeks paid vacation and then you're working again. Shoot someone's dog in their yard? Not a thing done.

They work for the citizens of their city and state respectively, yet victimize and break the public trust daily. If it seems that I'm constantly harping on bad cops, it's because there is constantly something to bring up. Cops tazing people who are already cuffed and secured? Shooting someone's dog in their house? Threatening a kid in a car with making up charges because he can?

You don't see an issue on this? I am passionate on this issue because my oath is to the Constitution. Violations of that Constitution dig into my skin like a 3 dollar crack whore seeing bugs. I can't ignore it and no one should either

Considering cops get company cars, gas paid by taxpayers, free coffee and snacks from most businesses, authority to do whatever the hell they feel like, use the city car to go to their second jobs, speed without tickets, commit crimes without prosecution, can discharge weapons recklessly without worrying about it and can destroy someone's life with just their words, I'd say that the perks should have a value put on it as well. Cops using squads outside of their duty times? They get charged for gas and vehicle use.

Speeding and blowing through redlights without running your lights or being on an emergency call? A bill is sent to you.

Showing off smoking your tires? Billed.

It's time the taxpayers start being treated like the boss
