In undergrad from 1996 - 1998 I made $2.13 an hour - I believe that's still the wage. I got paychecks for single-digit dollars. Not gonna get into the dfwm tip argument, just offering data points.

I am a good tipper, but no one is goin to dictate the rules of tipping to me. It an earned thing and never a have to thing.

That's how it worked when I waited tables. Servers tipped bar and bus (and expo on busy nights) based on server sales, not server tips. Bar and bus got paid regardless. If a server got stiffed, they were negative on the table because they paid the others, but the others still got $.

I'll tip what I think is fair. Generally based off friendliness, attentiveness, and food/drink service. I'll be damned if someone is going to tell me how to tip.
