Cruise ideas for 2013?

I love the autocross idea.. Would need to partner with one of the clubs that runs them for the equipment and setup though. I'm dying to run the new TL in that format.

DR, Autocross and Car show should make it more of an event that people would go to.. Couple of other ideas:

Make it a 24 hour event with parking lot camping.. Then the night before you can do a BBQ / Chili cookoff or something with some test-n-tune. The tracks don't need to be running all night or anything, but open it up for people to stay the night..

How about some live music? Surely there are a couple of local bands that would be willing to come out and entertain for experience / fun / or a small fee. Yale's brother is in a pretty good band, for instance..

Vendor / swap meet area.. Charge full-on vendors a space fee and have a swap-meet area for people to drag out their excess parts.

Hell, there are enough bikers here that a bikes could be included in the "show" and maybe even do a small competition for stunters.

Obviously those things make the scale a bit large, but if you can get sponsers that could offset much of the expense.

After some preliminary checking, the autocross part may be tough. It seems there's some insurance policies that are specific to that kind of event that may not be applicable at a drag race type environment.

Brooks, I think you are underestimating the number of our members that drive thier cars daily, and dont have a "drag only" setup. Especailly witht the new 5.0's out, there are lots of members that have cars that can do more than a straight line.

Is there a drag strip that we can do an autocross in the back parking lot somewhere? We could have drags on the strip, autocross in the back of the paddock, and a show-n-shine up front. Maybe have an award for best average place if entered in all three (show-n-shine, brackets and autocross)?

This would be a good idea, and make for a more fun day!

Just letting everyone know for tomorrow at the cruise, K-dale has been cracking down on tech. Just be careful .


I like the idea of some index racing or some bracket racing. But thats just me. One thing is, our cruises needs more racing. Alot of people show up but there are times when no one is in line to race. Just what I have seen from the past. Maybe I'm wrong on that.
