I do find it fishy that an HR expert wouldn't have the foresight to file for FMLA, rather than getting canned for being with her child having cancer treatments. No severence or unemployment either? There's gotta be more to the story.

That having been said, I think that they are a helluva lot more deserving than the rest of the welfare leaches out there.

Ok, I used 'fired'-I really don't know if she quit, was let go, or what. All I know is she lost a job when she had to spend 3 months in the Ronald McDonald house when H was ill. They've 'roomed' with friends in the past, but because H's immune system is so compromised, it was putting her at risk so they had to get a place of their own to have more control of the environment.

I am pretty sure they are getting assistance of some kind (government or other) on their rent.

I don't know all of the details-it's not my job to pry. All the info I gave you has come up at some time or another while I've been working with her since the beginning of September. All I know is this mom loves her daughter, was scared shitless since they got the diagnosis one day in April and had H scheduled for surgery the next. They had no time to prepare or plan for something like this.
