Funny story...my first new car was a '79 Z28. Stripped down with 4sp and factory 3.73's (turns out these are ultra rare now). Drove it home from Carter Chevrolet and dad and I took the catalytic converter off, drilled out the adjustment screws from the Quadra-junk, and bumped the timing. Ran it at several "grudge nights" at Green Valley and was good for 14.5/14.6 on Goodyear Polysteel radials. All with a factory rated 185hp. In the unmodified class they run all OEM parts. I was mainly talking about them. Since they take the time to tune these engines well and run good times. Even the modified class you still have to run OEM heads, blocks, manifolds, carbs. So saying there is almost nothing stock on those cars is false. My buddies factory stock 78 TA with a 6.5 (400)/auto ran a 15.02 @92 or 96 mph. It was fast back then. You keep bringing up the F.A.S.T. guys but there is almost nothing stock or OEM on those cars. They have 600+ CI aluminum block engines in some of them.

All those times where orginally done on bias ply tires which have about much traction as radials on ice. But hell the F.A.S.T. guys have been running 10's 11's on f70-14 and G70s for some time now. I had a rude awakening when I raced a 2013 in the 69. Fuckers run! This was bone stock. Yep, it is safe to say the old cars don't have shit on the new ones now days. Only way I would race one is from a dig and 1/8th mile only. Quarter mile they would pass me no problem.
Throw mods into the equation, I would lose all the way around.

My dad's 340 CID low compression Road Runner with heads/cam/intake/carb/exhaust made 270 through the auto, and we thought that was sad... looking at that chart, its a gd beast! lmfao.:bBishope:

I am about ready to pull the 455 out of my TA and get a new mill in there. I am not into the single digit gas mileage and need for 93 octane out here in east jesus.
