My step mom's 92 had 200k + on it when my little brother got it and had 322k on it when he sold it with only very minor issues.

This guy has me beat. If he took my cash offer of $1300 I would own it right now

I'm not quite the whiteboy of the Honda game yet. I've had 5 this year. My favorite was a black hx with over 315k miles

Any trans fluid will break down eventually. I really don't want to change it, I've killed transmissions like that before.

On any car I was ever going to keep, I always had the fluid flushed. A full brand new 14 quarts in there, not just the hack job of dropping the pan and changing the mere 5 quarts that may be in there, and the filter. Always had good luck with it. Then again, never did it on anything with over 150k miles. That might be pushing your luck. Cause if you look at most of the owner's manuals, that's about where the fluid interval change is anyway. Somewhere in there. Maybe 150k might be 20k over, but its pretty close given how long the fluid is intended to last. And if its that close, you know you're unlikely to hurt anything. And then I just stay on top of it, changing it again 120k later, or whatever the manual says the interval is. I've never kept a car long enough to see when it dies, but my guess is that if you always did that, your automatic transmission may never die.

It scares me to go too long without a flush, since that's pretty much what kills transmissions, besides dumbasses being dumbasses. Not changing the fluid can definitely kill one. Eventually.

      • Every Ford my family has ever owned has needed a new transmission before 70k miles

Fleet vehicles in use at 6 local fleet locations:

Between 6 2014 Ford fiestas there have been a combined 9 transmissions replaced, most are on their second transmission now and all have under 40k miles. My assigned fiesta has never been in for recalls or repairs besides fan assembly. I tell my driver's that they just aren't use to the torque converter less transmission

On all 6 fiestas the radiator fan assemblies have had to be replaced. This is not covered under warranty. The hardest used fiestas are also on their second replacement fan assemblies which come directly from ford

2014 fusion se. Rampant electrical problems, doors would not stay shut, would not latch or lock. Vehicle was in for service for 3 months before technical service bulletin was issued to correct problem. Instrument cluster failure due to engine harness or software issue- again Ford could not remedy problem locally and vehicle was driven several weeks without any vehicle instrumentation. Fixed after tsb was issued by For, again local tech and service reps could not patch software

Father in laws 2014escape titanium - instrumentation failure before tsb and recall announced. His wasn't as drastic, the digital screen still showed current miles and miles to empty. Patched with tsb, later fully remedied under recall. He has had it back in twice for air bag light remaining lit from initial patch fix.

At work our fleet of Nissan frontiers out of 6 only 1has needed any major service, which was transmission replacement. I was told it was from improper loading of oversized equipment and failure to come to a complete stop when going from reverse to drive
