I grew up there. All of the above are spot on! Acme Is great for raw oysters. My family(dad) and Mike Anderson were partners. So I kinda know the biz. Mike has great food as well. On Burbon st. Just off of Canal. Felix was closed after Katrina. Don't know if they rebuilt. Acme did right across the street.

    Great choices bcoop!

Go to Cafe du Monde in the morning before 10, no line or wait. Plus you don't have as many dumbasses to be around. We went at 10pm so I gave the group I was going with money and got a drink to go and went back to meet them there.

We were hanging out a little about a block down from the first section of Bourbon and when we left there were a ton of cops that ran by us when we were leaving. About 500 yards away 4 people were shot, none died. The group I was with was wondering what happened. Damn rich folk never been by a shooting before, told them what probably happened and they all happily followed me to the next street. http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/...rbon_stre.html

Wasn't worth it IMO. Maybe I went on a bad day but I'd have rather waited in line for Mother's. That was worth the wait and the service was great considering how busy they were when we went.
    And their coffee sucks!

Had a shrimp etouffee omelet at Mothers yesterday. It was spectacular. Overpriced, but spectacular.

Abita is decent. Get the Amber and stay away from the Purple Haze.

Right now it's my house. But when I go out its usually some place on the northshore of lake p. my favorite was friends in madisonville. But the last hurricane closed them for good. I'm a big fan of Abita brew pub.

We did go to Olivers and Acme for the more expensive places, since it was around my birthday I told them we could not go to any place that made you wear coat and tie. Our hotel was right on one of the parade routes and it may have been because of the beer and hurricanes I had before but this tent (outside a restaurant) had the best gumbo I have ever had. Have to love the lack of open container laws in New Orleans
