Shit, isn't like a 30 cent difference per gallon? That thing has what, a 13 gallon tank probably? That's roughly $4 a tank - if that's making or breaking anyone's purchase decision that person needs to look at another car, lmao.Originally posted by Slowhand View PostPersonally, if I'm buying a car, $15 a tank isn't going to make or break my decision anyway. Not that I won't be cheap and run 87/89, but that's really a middling deciding factor.Originally posted by davbrucasI want to like Slow99 since people I know say he's a good guy, but just about everything he posts is condescending and passive aggressive.
Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Ok, so maybe $200 a year in incremental gasoline expense is making/breaking your decision. Point stands.Originally posted by Darren M View PostYou guys are missing the bigger picture..... If you want gas mileage, don't buy a Mazdaspeed 3. They are advertised to get mid to high 20s, but in reality you'll get low 20s unless you buy a Cobb Accessport tuner and tune it for economy.
My wife has a regular Mini Cooper w/ an automatic trans. It's slow as dog shit, but gets 35+ MPG AVERAGE, and turns and stops on a dime. I almost traded my Mazdaspeed 3 in for a brand new Mini Cooper S in the middle of last year because it was so much more enjoyable to drive, and the gas mileage is so much better.
All that said, I wouldn't pay 23k for a 3 year old car, and there's not a huge amount of difference between the S model and the JCW model besides styling and a couple performance parts that you could get on the cheeap. Find a nice used S or get a high mileage lease on a brand new S.

Good point. Getting into Excel now and running some numbers. V8 vs JCW. Thanks!Originally posted by slow99 View PostOk, so maybe $200 a year in incremental gasoline expense is making/breaking your decision. So this is the other alternative I've been looking at. The wheelbase is longer than the Mini, so it has more storage room (compared to basically none in the regular cooper), more leg room, and I feel like it feels more planted in the corners. The squareback and vertically split rear cargo doors are something you'd have to get used to, but all around it's a great car.Originally posted by mustang_marc View PostMy g/f has a Mini Clubman. We drive around in it often and take both of our kids along frequently as well. I'm 6' tall and have even sat in the back seat before and never felt cramped. The regular Mini - maybe. But the Clubman definitely has a little room in it.
