I don't think that is the issue, the drives were pretty standard, it was definitely at operating temp. Apparently Jeep has problems with the rings on these motors.

It's a Chrysler product is the main problem.

I would suspect intake before anything else unless there is a common known problem with those engines.

The rings are a common problem apparently. The tech stated the problem was the short block, no intake issue.

This is why I always push people to the 97-03 Jeeps. Even the 04 up 4.0 has had sporadic issues.

Our '10 doesn't use oil, but it has always had a spark knock that only I can hear, apparently.

That 3.8l motor sucks donkey balls.

Several years have head and valve train issues that Jeep won't fix until it starts throwing codes. It is pretty well documented.

04 up only had transmission problems with the 6 speed, I don't know of any problems with those motors.

Dizzy /camshaft issues iirc. Still nothing in comparison to the new engines.

I haven't torn one apart myself but my understanding is poor oil port design and the smallest amount of sludge blocks them causing oil starvation and then the rings prematurely wear out the cylinders. Someone does an oil change, I cleans out the sludge but the damage is already done.
That's just from what I have heard and read, no real first hand experience.

Only motor that should use a quart every 1k miles is a Rotary.

Dodge replaced the motor under warranty since it had oil changes every 3k miles as specified. Just a badly built engine.

This. My friend's RX8 used to eat a quart about ever 1100-1200 miles.
