We had a guy that had to be taught to tie his boots. The man had several degrees from a college (I want to say MIT but it was a decade ago) for basically rocket science and he could sit down and tell you the most obscure information but he had no idea how to tie his boots or iron his uniform. He would however, do anything you told him to exactly like you told him to do it perfectly and could quote anything you told him word for word, right back to you. He had the infantryman's creed, Ranger creed and most of the IET handbook memorized within a few minutes of seeing them.Originally posted by Pokulski-Blatz View PostShit, when I was in basic 12 years ago the only two that could tie a tie out in my platoon was myself and some reserve officer candidate that worked at a bank for his real job.I wear a Fez. Fez-es are cool

I think he was reclassed. You don't hear about it happening often but he absolutely couldn't function in the job. He could road march like a beast though. You had to tell him it was time to stop and that he should be tired. It's like he was brilliant but things like his environment and exhaustion just didn't occur to himOriginally posted by Pokulski-Blatz View PostFuck that dude.I wear a Fez. Fez-es are cool

Shit, in my small <20 AIT class we had no less than 4 re classes. For some reason motherfuckers just couldn't get past the security clearance.Originally posted by Forever_frost View PostI think he was reclassed. Heck, we lost 33% of our class, and that was right on target for the normal fail out rate for my MOS. I think it ended up being right around 40 ppl dropped out of 120Originally posted by Pokulski-Blatz View PostShit, in my small <20 AIT class we had no less than 4 re classes. Ya, but you guys have fun, downside is it doesn't translate well to the civi side. I worked in a lab counting blood cells, not the most exciting thing...Originally posted by Pokulski-Blatz View PostYour MOS is slightly more technical than most. I still wish I had signed up for that MOS, but I was a dumbass and picked some combat arms shit.

I remember BCT back in 1990. The DI figured out that me and two others were the only ones in a company of about 70 people that could tie a tie. I was the only one that could do a double windsor. I taught about 20 dude how to tie a tie (cursing their Fathers the entire time) and then just said screw it. I tied the ties for every single one that was left and told them to never untie it...
Side note, in AIT (67N10 UH1H Utility Helicopter Repairer) I was the only active duty person in training. Nearly 50 others in there were all National Guard. About a quarter of them didn't finish. I was top of the class but that isn't exactly an accomplishment when the next guy was as smart as Forrest Gump.

I'm young enough to not attend funerals that frequently. I have a tie, and i've worn it about 6 times in 2013 to weddings, special occasions and when wanna class it up at fine dining like at sizzlers or something.Originally posted by bcoop View PostHow old are you? Even if you don't wear them for work, what the fuck do you wear to funerals? Jorts and a t shirt?
I'll be sure to keep some jorts and a t shirt handy incase you invite me somewhere nice. Can't beat them, Join their NEW message board !!

NOTHING I learned translated to anything in the real world. If anything, having your training would be a nice thing to just have. LMAO @ us having fun. I spent more time gardening than anything else. I did always feel bad for the medics and lab techs that were with combat arms units. They would rotate throughout the year and train with us at the hospital and I would have to train them simply to draw blood and administer vaccines, because, they were always working in the motor pool back at their units. They were actually stoked to be doing blood draws and other rudimentary medical tasks.Originally posted by Pokulski-Blatz View PostNOTHING I learned translated to anything in the real world. Always blew my mind to spend all that money to send someone through a school and train them, only to have them forget their skills and never utilize them, oh well
