LOL The second to the last time I went, the talk of the show was that they had allowed a 67 Mustang shell into the Swap Meet area and that it didn't fit within the rules. lol That was the first year I started seeing billet wheels showing up, too. I think that was '09 or '10.

There were actually quite a few post 64' cars/trucks inside the show area on Saturday, I don't think they were actually checking much....none that were too bad though. We saw quite a few 67-72 era Chevy pickups inside the grounds....I recall a couple 1st Gen Mustangs, and also some GM A-body cars that were post 64.

Good thing was we really didn't see a lot of crap like that Eliminator wannabe in the show area, but certainly around the cruise, hotel, and elsewhere in-general.

Nevertheless, you guys were right on the recommendation....I see what all the hype is now, and I'll certainly be back next year.

The sad thing is that crap like that started making its way into the LSR show about 3 or 4 years ago. You used to not even be allowed to have billet wheels. The last time I went they even had mid 70's vans in there. Not that I don't like old school custom vans; in fact I love them. But that show isn't anything close to being "pre '64 traditional" as advertised any more.

We had a good one last weekend in Austin...a couple of us were checking out a really slick old Pickup that was in our hotel parking lot on Saturday night....this old semi-drunk guy comes up on us and starts talking to us, "if you guys like this you should come over and see my car"....he was nice enough so we walked over with him....turns out his car was some kind of 33'-ish coupe (kit) that looked about like it came fresh out of an early 80's ZZ Top video. Beyond the god awful candy paint and terribly dated graphics, I think this thing had the first set of Billet Specialty wheels ever made. To make it worse, it had zero attention to detail and looked completely thrown together....right down to the heavily cross-eyed headlights.

The guy starts telling us about how it is "just as nice underneath as it is up top"....and how it has all the "good stuff"....like Cadillac seats, shaved door handles, and electric trunk. I asked him what drivetrain it had in it..."nothing but the best" he says, "a punched out 350 with overdrive". I thought I'd humor him a little....what a 383 and 700R4?...."no, 350 punched out...don't remember the specs, but it's all race stuff, and the tranny is the heavy duty Cadillac unit".

The guy then tells us this is it's first time out because "it's been on the show circuit for the past couple years". LOL!!

Some of the worst conversations I have ever had were with people about Firebird and Trans Am engines. The 400 and 403 is one of the biggest arguments, then the Turbo engine size, and last but least about their 1980 TA having a factory 455. I have built three and the amount of idiots never seams to amaze me. One day, when I am bored and just have money to burn, I really want a Turbo TA with a LS Turbo swap. Every time I pop the hood I am going to swear it is a factory car.
