The page I snagged the pic from said it was a 58 Fury. They've got this neat trick where you can paint a car a different color from the factory.

Well, the car you showed is not representative of a Fury for a number of reasons besides the red paint. It doesn't have the godawful 'cocoa' brown interior, or the gold Sportone trim, hubcaps, and grille of a Fury and no holes in the Sportone kickups where the Fury badges would have gone. What you can't see is if the car has the Fury-standard 318ci LA poly with dual quads (FLP8 engine stamping), or the optional Golden Commando dual quad 350 B (L350). No indication if it has heavy duty suspension and 12" drums.

The car does at least have dual mirrors, front and rear bumper wings, and the appropriate fender mouldings that came standard on the '58 Fury. Of course these items were optional for a Belvedere or even Savoy, as was the V-800 dual quad GC350.

I don't know the details that say what year is what on a mopar. And I don't mind admitting it.

I was able to pull 355rwhp and 12.80's out of my 94 LT1 A4 with....LT4HC, Comp 1.6 roller rockers, mildly ported heads with oversize valves, Impala SS thin head gaskets for SLIGHT bump in compression, BBK 58mm throttle body (waste of money), Hooker short tubes, Borla exhaust, aftermarket WS6 Ram Air hood and air filter box, and custom ECM tuning done on the dyno. Stock they made around 250-260 to the wheels with an auto...so yeah...its possible.

Not saying it's impossible...but I doubt this guy had the capacity for that sort of detailed combo.

I had a 96' TA myself.... .030 over shortblock with coated Probe pistons, 195cc AFR heads (a tad over 11:1), AFR Rev Kit, Comp CC306 cam kit, Comp roller rockers (1.6 on intake 1.5 on exhaust), LT4 intake, SLP T-body, SLP headers, 3" exhaust...tuned with LT1 Edit, and probably a few other things I've long forgotten. It made a best of 422rwhp...ran a best of 12.06 (only one time tho), and slew of 12.1's & 12.2's. Was an M6 car with 4.10's.

Looking back, I hated that car...it was well cared for and very clean, but always something breaking on it, and it was a gas chamber to drive around town. Not to mention a lot of good parts and nearing 500hp at the crank...to never get out of the 12's. It was a heavy pig to begin with, and also had a 6pt cage in it that made it worse. This was ~15 years ago though, so it was a lot of fun on the street....and always murdered the (then) new LS1 cars. It had a vicious sounding idle too.

Although the car in the film is identified as a 1958 Plymouth Fury—and in 1983 radio ads promoting the film, voiceover artists announced, "she's a '57 Fury"—two other Plymouth models, the Belvedere and the Savoy, were also used to portray the malevolent automobile onscreen. Total production for the 1958 Plymouth Fury was only 5,303, and they were difficult to find and expensive to buy at the time. In addition, the real-life Furys only came in one color, "Buckskin Beige", seen on the other Furys during the initial scenes of the movie. Several vehicles were destroyed during filming, but most of the cars were Savoy and Belvedere models dressed to look like the Fury. Of the twenty cars used in the film, only two still exist; one vehicle was rescued from a junkyard and restored by collector Bill Gibson of Pensacola, Florida.[2]

My brother recently purchased a '56 Chevy 150. We were outside messing with it the other day when his neighbor came over and expressed their love of this car ever since they saw it as "Christine". We looked at each other at just let the neighbor ramble on.
