I always tip the bartender, but usually if its a mixed drink ill see how well they mixed it, if they give me some weak drink, they dont get a tip, they take care of me, and ill take care of them because I came there to drink, and they came there to make money.

And on a 80 dollar bar tab I would usually tip 25-30 bucks at the least.

Typically when I'm behind the bar. Of course, this doesn't apply to beer, the strength of your drink, as well as what I'm going to charge you for it, depends on how much you are willing to tip. I set up the inventory system in this bar so I know where the limits are to make sure they are making their money, and I am making mine.

30-40% for great service, $1-$2 per drink. I know waiters and waitresses are underpaid and depend on tips. If they treat me right, I will treat them right. I'm not that hard to please, just get it right and check in every once in a while. Shitty service gets $1 or 2. I always tip in cash.

Usually $1/drink and 20% on meals. Some people tip on the total, some on the sub total which makes the % +/-.
I just finished reading "Keep the Change: A Clueless Tipper's Quest to Become the Guru of the Gratuity" by Steve Dublanica. Very interesting and gives you an idea of what is normal or expected in different situations. Covers lots of different professions like valet parking, shoe shine, etc. Very interesting history of how tipping got started in the U.S basically so the railroad did not have to pay black porters.
I don't stiff waiters and I do not have stupid rules about "if my drink is empty...". Sometimes jerks expect rude/bad service and get it because they are jerks.
I had never thought about $1 per drink not being enough depending upon what the drink costs (covered in the book).
< never had a job working for tips.

02GT (Steve) and MotoMan (Greg) and I went to the Plano Hooters Saturday evening.....I'd say our waitress was in the top 5%. You'd have tipped the shit outta her.....they were spectacular, and she wore them well!

Also on that note i do know the difference between "busy" bad service (i still normally tip pretty good with that) and "not giving a fuck standing around bullshitting or on your phone etc" bad service

When out drinking... If the service is good i normally tip $1 per drink + 5 bucks

    5 drinks = $10 bucks
    10 drinks = $15 etc
Im pretty simple though... miller lt bottles and a straight shot every now and then..

when out to eat i usually tip 35% if the service is good.. if service is bad they get 10%

Normally I would agree. However in this case, the clown was standing at the entrance to the kitchen watching it get delivered.

If the service is lacking I'll pay attention to see how many wait staff are on the floor and how many tables our server has and base my tip off that little tid bit of info.
This as long as my drink is refilled enough I'm normally happy. But at a bar, I generally tip a couple bucks every round I buy, if I'm paying cash. On the card it's been upwards of 50% sometimes. Of course I'm pretty drunk at the time.

Depends on the service and the amount spent on food. If I get shit service, then I won't tip anything. Usually if it's $20, I will tip $3-$5. For $40, I will tip $5-$10.
