I would venture to say that the majority of people that wear watches today do so as a fashion accessory and/or jewelry/status symbol, and rarely depend on them to tell time. We as a society are narcissistic, thus fashion and jewelry will never become obsolete.

Sweet watch. It looks like it doesn't have a crystal face. If so, are the hands basically unprotected?Originally posted by 46Tbird View PostStacy bought me this badass WeWood watch a few years ago. Every time I wear it, I get people asking about it. It's pretty damned cool.

Interesting theory but if that is true (that the majority of watch wearers do so only to be flashy) why would so many cheap watches be sold?Originally posted by Big A View PostI would venture to say that the majority of people that wear watches today do so as a fashion accessory and/or jewelry/status symbol, and rarely depend on them to tell time. I'm not talking about knockoffs or imitators, I'm talking about inexpensive functional watches.Originally posted by Magnus View PostThe same reason hair extensions and press on nails are sold.
Fake ass fucks trying to look classy.
I do agree that high end watches are really just jewelry. A $5k Rolex is no more functional than a $100 Timex. In fact, maybe even less functional. Not that there's anything wrong with it. I just don't know that I believe that 'most' watch wearers do so for vanity.Last edited by Chili; 10-15-2014, 12:11 AM.

Same reason that there's lots of CZ and 10k gold out there, those who wear watches for fashion like to have a few options, and would rather have several cheaper watches in various styles and bands, than invest in a single "nice" watch.Originally posted by Chili View PostInteresting theory but if that is true (that the majority of watch wearers do so only to be flashy) why would so many cheap watches be sold?
