Depending on the model, VW and Audi is going to be mostly the same car with a different body, and the GTIs have been cool and fun to drive for a long time. I would still go for a mustang simply because it isn't wrong wheel drive, but GTIs don't suck.

It could have a V-12 in it and its still looks like a Rabbit to me. If anyone here knows what the differences between an Audi and Volkswagon its probably going to be me. I've worked on them all. It's like most all Miata owners, "Oh but my MiaTa will run circles around your mOOstang on a road track." Who cares, if I want to do that I'll build the appropriate car, it still won't be a gTi or miaTa...

That jetta is nice looking. Comparing a loaded outmoded vs a base model is silly. I think the mustang is more car and has better inferiority the top model. But not a fair comparison based on the prices guys have said the gti are

One thing you guys seem to be overlooking is the GTI is the top of the line Golf. If you wanted to compare styling you'd have to compare it to a GT or soon to be GT350. Of COURSE a top optioned car is going to look good compared to a base model of another. Wheels go a long way to help the looks of a car, and that mustang posted earlier in the thread looks like dog dick because the wheels suck.

this. the GLI is cheaper and I think looks better than the GTI, it weighs less than 100 pounds more so thats negligible.
Both cars look, sound, and drive better than the ecoboost, and I actually really like the ecoboost!

I love my Miata, however if I only had one car to drive I would not. If I had to mix my sports car habit with a daily driver I would be all over a Mustang or maybe the new Focus. The top down two door roadster is just a fun driver that gets good gas mileage. A little forced induction and it will be a awesome screw around weekend car. If I wasn't so lazy I would build a AC Cobra,but these days I enjoy driving more than wrenching.

And a 50k mustang looks better than a 50k corvette. (IMO) The mustang is a more upscale car in a completely different class, the same with the mustang/corvette comparison. It should be kept apples/apples.
