Bought our Kenmore side-by-side from the Grapevine Sears Outlet 8 years ago. Scratch & Dent. Retailed for $1,200 and I paid $700. Not a single problem with it.

Good luck. I understand people are just posting their experiences with brands and that's helpful, but most of these models are not counter depth. Your options are limited when that's what you need.

EFFFFF Samsung. Had one at my house, few years old, fridge died. repairman said bad board $650...He said to buy American (Whirlpool,Kenmore,Etc.) We bought the Whirlpool.
Brother has Samsung. Fridge took a crap this week. He got lucky and had the service contract. Lowes delivering a new one this week.

Got a Samsung as well...no problems yet. Got it from Best Buy for $1500 with some random $300 off coupon.

Check Lowes as they have many scratch and dents as well as returns. I bought my sister a Whirlpool Gold one that still had all the plastic wrap and styrofoam dividers in it for $1100. It was a return because it didnt fit. They will also negotiate prices on the open box stuff.

Whirlpool fake stainless doors (no cleaning issues plus magnetic), no electronics, all manual controls. Going fine for 9 years or so.

I fill the pull out drawer with beer so I can grab a new one without letting all of the cold air out of the main compartment.

Bought this one from Lowes about a year ago - http://www.lowes.com/pd_185146-149-R...rigerators#img

So far it has been really good for us. It's a bit larger than what we were initially looking for, but still fits the space well, and at the time when we bought it, it was marked down over $1K off of suggested retail, then we also used a 10% off Lowes coupon. We were initially looking at a lower Sumsung model that was ~25cu-ft, and then realized this one was cheaper due to the sale and also had several more features, including dual icemakers....so it was a no brainer.

Things we like the most - the arrangement of the drawers and compartments...everything is much easier to see and get to as compared to our old side-by-side. They really thought this design out well. I also really like the dual icemakers. The one in the bottom is a tub style, and always good for filling up an ice chest. The LED lighting is nice too.

Things we dislike - The ice hopper in the door seems to deliver a bit slow, and it also has a bit of delay before it will even start delivering. I usually just open the bottom and scoop my cup full out of the bottom tub. I also don't like that it won't deliver ice or water while any of the doors are open....understandably, none will while the delivery door is open, but I've seen others that still will when the adjacent door is opened, as long as the delivery door is closed...this one will not. There is also no pre-measurement for water out of the door....our old Kenmore even had that...where you could set your cup, pitcher, whatever up there and click the number of cups, pints, quarts, and it would deliver exactly that amount without having to stand there and hold the paddle down.

Nevertheless, I like the Samsung so far. Before this one we had the Kenmore, and it was junk - if you like having an icemaker, do not buy a Kenmore, our last one had multiple issues with the icemaker, and the final issue could never be fixed. My Dad had the same issues with his. It also developed an odd chemical smell in the freezer, which was the final straw with that POS. It was only 7-years old when I had someone haul it off.

Before the Kenmore we had a Whirlpool side-by-side, which is actually still running well as the beer/drink fridge in our laundry room - I bought it brand new in 1995. However, it too had numerous issues with the icemaker...I believe they are made by the same manufacturer as Kenmore. Everything else has been pretty good with that unit, but it is pretty basic....can't complain about 20-years of service, though, we got our money's worth.

It seems all refrigerators these days have the ice make issue. What gives? The old refrigerators last forever!
