It said his left arm was trapped, he freed it while holding on to the luggage rack with his right arm.

My guess is he was on high alert and probably had his right hand on his weapon or near the holster on the stop, and tried to unlock the door using his left hand while keeping his right hand close to his side. It says some UC officers asked him to stop the vehicle and make an arrest, so he probably already had the idea that this guy was a flight risk or a danger.

I have one question, but before I get to that - props to the officer for doing what needed to be done.

A lot of it's assumption, but if he's right handed - he's most likely reaching into the car WITH his right hand, which would undoubtedly be the one trapped.. and assuming his gun would be on his RH side how did he get the gun out if he's bieng drug by his right arm? Was the weapon already unholstered?

New article posted on yahoo news says officer was indeed trapped on the running boards for a short distance before firing 12 rounds into the perp.

and fwiw, i've only ever been pulled out of the car to be detained. for a normal traffic stop it's never happened.

I was asked to get out of the car immediately after I was stopped in Arizona on I-40. The cop backed up to my trunk and told me to get out. He then backed up to the front of his car as I walked to the back of my car. I was told to stand behind my car facing the trunk while he ran my DL. It was in Arizona on I-40. It was nothing more than a speeding stop. I was told the reason for this was because I-40 is a huge drug trafficking artery they want people away from the inside of their car.

I NEVER get anyone out of the seat before I get DL and run them. Henry, I don't know who's been pulling you over besides Plano, but that's just not procedurally correct, and to top it off, that's piss-poor officer safety.

The more I read about it, two things become obvious. The guy driving was a human cockroach and the attempted takedown was very poorly planned and should have involved more people.

From what I'm hearing, there were 3 officers on scene.

You damn well know he is supposed to get the guy out of the car before he asks for DL/I and then run his DL. Everytime I get pulled over im asked to get out of the car. AND NO ONE ON THIS ENTIRE FUCKING SITE HAS BEEN PULLED OVER MORE THAN ME!

I've been asked to get out of my car exactly once. It was by a black cop though, so I'm sure he was just trying to even karma up a little bit! No ticket, cause I'm smooth like that!

It was in the DMN today that he was being watched by undercover and the beat cop was told to pull him over. I still stand by my fuck him too for putting his children at risk like that, he was not innocent by any means. My entire point is not to shoot him in the head while there were KIDS around. They/him should have handled it another way.

I'm glad the cop wasn't hurt but he didn't make the right choice by putting himself in that position either.

I don't know. My SN95 was bright red, 3" exhaust with 2 chamber flowers with cut outs underneath the rear passenger seats, and big and littles. I have been through Plano a few times. If that doesn't scream attention I am not sure what does. Anyways, I can care less. I don't get tickets or hate the police because I know how to talk to people.

As more info comes out, I doubt the cop did anything that I wouldn't have done. That guy made a choice and he paid for it.
