Should smoking be banned in bars?

TBH, if it was up to the owner, they really would have no choice. If they decided to not have smoking in their establishment that leaves them vulnerable to a huge loss of business. No owner is going to cut his/hers own throat.Originally posted by jdgregory84 View PostNo. Because smoking is cool.
Seriously though, it should be up to the bar owner. Like stated before, if a bartender is bitching.....sounds like they didn't think their employment decision through very well. If non-smoking customers are bitching, again, what did you expect? You're in a bar.

I hear yaOriginally posted by mstng86 View PostThat's not what the law says now.
I am really just playing devils advocate. I really don't give a shit either way. Just don't come in my home and smoke.
don't go preaching that too much, the anti-smokers dont wanna hear all that. Just about their supposed right to say "hey, we don't want to go in there because of the smoke. It my right to go in any restraurant I want and demand you quit smoking so wencan go in "Originally posted by GrayStangGT View PostThe argument is not about the smokers right to smoke in restaurant/bar it is about the owners right to choose, not to be told by the government either way.

True. I smoke when I go out and drink and I'd be perfectly cool with a patio area outside. That's how a lot of bars on 6th street here in Austin are since you can't smoke in bars...minus the ones that don't care.Originally posted by mstng86 View PostTBH, if it was up to the owner, they really would have no choice. Simple fact is this. If smokers would be more courteous it wouldn't come down to this. Non smokers are expected to respect the fact that smokers smoke, but smokers aren't in turn, expected to respect the clean air request of non smokers. So I say fuck those greedy bastards. Go stink up your own space. Then again, I think it should solely be up the the decision of the establishment owners and no one else.Originally posted by Ruffdaddy View PostSo bothering every one in an enclosed public establishment with your carcinogens is a right? The right is allowing you to do that in an environment where it doesn't annoy people.
If I'm going to a place that I KNOW is a smoking establishment, and I choose to go anyway, I don't bitch because it's a place I decided to be.Originally posted by VertnutI'd run my junk through a waffle iron, if it makes you more "comfortable". LOL!

I figured you were smarter than to use some dumbass poll as "proof" or "evidence" as to what people want. Polls can be done to show any side, of any argument. They hold no water at all. It's all about their sampling.Originally posted by bcoop View PostI have to say, poll results thus far have surprised me.
Looks like you were right.
In all seriousness, I'm a little surprised at the results too. Just out of curiosity, I'd like to see the % of smokers here too, but this topic doesn't really need a third thread.

If only they'd ease up and let those brothels operate in full swing....Originally posted by racrguy View PostNon smoker, voted no. I don't need the government telling me, or anyone that owns a business what kind of patrons they will allow and what actions they partake in.

I think this is something that should be up to the owner... why should anyone else have a say about what they allow in their establishment?
you might have regulars who like to smoke and when a city puts out a smoking ban they could risk losing some of their clientele.
When I go out I prefer to go to Addison b/c I can smoke. For me smoking and drinking go hand in hand
