A pancake compressor will have hell keeping up with an impact . At the very least I would look into a smaller compressor on wheels if you plan on using any kind of air tools. A pancake compressor is good enough for nailers that use small shots of air or just airing up tires (and even that will take a decent sized tank unless you dont mind waiting on the pancake to refill) but anything that uses any amount of air like impacts, grinders and pretty much any automotive airtool then youll need a decent sized tank.

I have 2 pancake, 1 small vertical compress and a large vertical compressor. All 110 though. Everything works fine, even a small cutting tool. However, none of them do well at all with an impact gun. The air ratchet it is good with as well.
Now, if I crank up the regulated pressure it'll spin an impact gun fairly well for like 3 seconds. So for some odd jobs it works well, but for now I stick with my electric impact.
I made the decision awhile ago that once I buy a new compressor when I have a shop - it'll be a 220v 2 stage compressor and done with it. It would seem that would be maximum flexibility.
I think the gas run compressors are pretty bad ass too, but for shop purposes that would be a funky setup. For field work though, they are awesome.Originally posted by MR EDDU defend him who use's racial slurs like hes drinking water.

I always wondered if you could rig up some kind of little muffler system for air compressors.Originally posted by Up0n0ne View Post

lmao! did you just do that? yeah, i would love to find a compressor that size that can handle an impact. im thinking i just might have to make room for a bigger one or just settle for having to take my wheels off by hand.Originally posted by TENGRAM View Post

Mine will run an impact all day. I've used it for years on lug nuts, strut/shock bolts, control arms, etc.Originally posted by A+ View Postlmao! did you just do that? yeah, i would love to find a compressor that size that can handle an impact. im thinking i just might have to make room for a bigger one or just settle for having to take my wheels off by hand.

It was funny you mentioned the tires because I just happened to have a stack near my compressor

Never thought about that, but have thought about that for the lawn mower. hahaOriginally posted by StanleyTweedle View PostI always wondered if you could rig up some kind of little muffler system for air compressors.
Well heck you have plenty of room then. Yeah the Dewalt's are a bit high and aren't what they used to be.Originally posted by A+ View Postid say as big as a stack of four 17" tires...
You should be able to find a descent one for under $300, sometimes smaller doesn't always mean cheaper and vice versa.2 Chronicles 7:14

Yeah you ever seen those bicycles, that somehow have a very small gas powered engine attached to them? The muffler on them is like 2 feet long. I've always wanted to hook that up to my air compressors and my loud lawn mower.Originally posted by Up0n0ne View PostNever thought about that, but have thought about that for the lawn mower. haha
