That's not bad I guess. I assume you'll want to get a harness and ecu with the motor? Do they make any affordable standalone units?Originally posted by Baron View Postout of the box with a tune they are about 300 and some change."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

some folks are getting by pretty cheap by running a megasquirt1 for fuel and msd6010 for spark, but i think the factory pcm is the best bang for the buck. grab a motor that comes with a harness (and ideally a pcm) and it's not too hard to convert it to stand alone, only problem with this solution is you either need to buy hptuners $500+ or pay someone to tune it and deal with having to get it retuned when you make major changes.Originally posted by CJ View PostThat's not bad I guess. holley has a plug and play solution (hp efi) but it cost well over a grand i believe. there has been some luck using a microsquirt setup to run the fuel and spark (in batch fire), but neither of the ms solutions allow you to retain all the creature comforts like IAC for example.

msd6010 uses the factory coil packs. unless you go with the ms3 you have to use waste spark as they only have 6 ignition channels.Originally posted by Sleeper View PostThere is a guy out there making complete ls1 harnesses for the mege/microsquirt for ls1.
Lets you use the factory coil packs instead of the msd box.
With no meth inj, no nitrous. I think you can get away with 500 at wheel easy on the 5.3's

and as i've said in the past, i should have pulled it apart and opened up the rings gapsOriginally posted by Cobraman View Postyeah. Didn't dvilles break at half that?
From the article above:
The real reason most stock motors fail under boost is insufficient ring gap. The rings heat up and expand until the ring gap is eliminated. Once this happens, the ring can momentarily stick in the bore and snap the ring land off the piston. Damage that is usually attributed to weak piston design is actually insufficient ring gap. Knowing we were going for broke, we gapped the rings aggressively—meaning over .035 for both top and second rings.l

didnt read it, could give a shit. saw it broke at 1308, is what i was making funny about. Thats still stout, no damn doubt, just an observation.Originally posted by grove rat View Posti guess you missed the articles where they had a 4.8/5.3 do multiple pulls making 1000/1300 hp respectively

that is bad ass, just not sure how when 98% LS1s dont make that, and 85-90% Ls2s cant either... unless these are crank figures (again didnt read article)Originally posted by Trick Pony View PostPretty crazy for a stock shortblock. I'm also impressed that the 5.3L made 500hp with H/C/I N/A.
