The copper coat and spray paint help seal the gasket.

If anyone wants to make a gasket reusable, like an upper to lower intake gasket, spray it with PAM cooking spray.

Any money to be made in semi stock rebuilds? I've been thinking about doing exactly this for a bit of fun money.

Ive known folks that do that, buy used engines off craigslist, ring & bearing and a valvejob/seals and resell it on craigslist.

My opinion is that really only "works" if you dont have to buy pistons, have machine work done, etc. Most of the money in a rebuild is not in the labor to put it together.

What is this small plug looking thing on this freeze plug?

if the engine gets to hot, that little "button thingy" will fall off the freeze plug. Machine shops use those to tell if an engine overheats, and thus voids your warranty.
