That's simply not the case. The championship would have come down to Abu Dhabi any way and Rosberg can win without the assistance of double points, albeit needing to win with Hamilton finishing in 6th or 7th or below.

For an additional point of reference, under the 2003-2009 points system Rosberg is only 1 point behind (136-135) and would only need to win with Lewis coming in 3rd to have the outright championship.

It will be a shame if it comes down to double points, but it doesn't have to for Rosberg to legitimately win the championship.

Me too. For lewis to not win the drivers championship after the challenges he has overcome with more mechanical failures, DNFs, and qualifying disasters compared to nico, it's hard to accept that he can still lose to nico in the final race.

In the end I accept the rules and the double points. I just hope both cars are able to to make it it though the weekend without any issues and are able to race and let this be decided the right way. No mechanical failures, no pit stop disasters, no errant backmarker collsions or safety car strategy call situation.

I enjoyed the race, and I'm glad that Hamilton and Rossberg were so close all day but would have loved to see Rossberg bin the car on the final lap. I don't know why, I never even gave him a second thought until this year, but eff I hate him. I'm a fan of Lewis, and although it's not my normal way of thinking I really hate Nico. I guess it's mainly his bitching all season and his asking the engineer where to make up time, where Lewis is better (although that's not supposed to happen over radio anymore).

Yea its sounding more like Button is out at McLaren and even if they were going to want him, he might decide to leave anyways. Apparently its come out that McLaren aren't really treating him fair. Alonso is expected to confirm what we already know which is a new contract for McLaren. Which IMO will mean Vettel will go to Ferrari.

    Come on son

If they boycott then its going to leave a black eye on the sport. They shouldn't. Sauber needs to at least try to get in the Top 10 with double points.

    which is the 3rd team?

Marussia is dead but graeme lowdon seems to think they could be back with a new name. perhaps the old ownership goes under and the debt goes with it then the new owner takes over. BUT unless i understand it wrong the ownership would have to carry the name "manor grand prix" otherwise it is not entitled to the 9th place constructor funds that it was currently in line for this year.

caterham might just make it thanks to their crowd funding effort. they are about half way to their target.

either way i dont think these teams make it to next year.

Yea I simulatenously watch sky f1. There are goods and bads with each. I like Hobbs but he is a bit senile now and wrong a lot. Kept saying Lewis must win in Abu double but that is wrong. He can finish 2nd if Nico winds again. Diffy talks too much. Id rather have Bob varsha back but would love Peter Windsor back. Doubt Jensen would be US coverage but would be nice..

I was talking to my wife about how good button would be as a broadcaster. I would love to see David Hobbs replaced...

Sky Sports is reporting the McLaren & Alonso deal is done and is the biggest in F1. 2 years with an option for a 3rd.

Likely Jensen is done in F1 which is a bummer, he is my favorite driver. Maybe WEC with Toyota? Maybe broadcasting? Possibly both.

They have been saying that about alonso for awhile now...it's gotta come true. I think mclaren will be a very strong team next year. They should be ahead when it comes the the ICE from indy, and theythey're getting RBRs ex head of aero...

    I hope 2015 is a good season
