This is America, and every person has the right to hold whatever stupid opinion they want, and even to vocalize that opinion. Being a dumbass isn't illegal.
I agree with you, this is why he shouldn't be forced to sell the team by the NBA. What if some owner is over heard saying they don't want gays on his team, is the NBA going to force him to sell his team? Where does it stop?

He'll have to sell the team either way, the way I see it, he'll lose sponsorships and free agents won't want to go there. It will devalue his team. He should sell now, since rich guys are lining up right now.

They are forcing him to divest his interest in the league period so I honestly would tell em to shove that fine up their a$$...I mean, if you dont pay it, you are forced with a penalty...he is already banned; wtf would not paying the fine do?

Of course, I would only decline to pay the fine after I have filed an appeal or lawsuit for they discriminating me for my opinions...that were shared in the privacy of my home...

He is a piece of trash but forcing him to sell…I honestly agreed with Mark Cuban’s first comment prior to the ban. Where will it stop you know? Racism is a two way street and no one is perfect. They say, Oh, he is a public figure. Well so is Snoop Dogg yet I don’t see anyone jumping on the band wagon with regards to his racist laden rant that was posted on twitter.

I have been wondering this myself....but I fear a Sterling sex tape might pop up and that's the last thing I want to come across

Think of it like a McDonalds franchise. You agree to a certain set of standards and in return you get to buy stuff from them and use the name. It's an NBA team, you get to use the name and play other NBA teams.

You can't just all of a sudden start selling tacos or paint the arches blood red at McDonalds. You made a substantial investment in order to have access to the franchise, they in return expect you to meet their standards. If you don't they can take it away from you since they own it.

He may have rights to the stadium or parking lots but the contracts to the players are guaranteed by the NBA. If push came to shove and he had any kind of legal right to block the deal the NBA could just open the players up to a draft and he'd have an empty building with no players or a team logo to promote.

Yep, and it seems only now people are interested.

They say its due to social media, which might be true to a point but newspapers have been around just as long and its not like we dont know how to read much less watch a TV.

I just think that people want to feel like they are a part of something so if something perks their interest then BAAM, on the bandwagon we go.

The whole private club thing is BS. Yeah you have a contract with that entity but that does not give them the right to act against your best interest. I would think that forcing him to sell against his will much less at a lower than market value could be questionable and perhaps, a risk at finding abuse of power on the NBA's behalf. He has to be compensated for market value otherwise...I could see a court taking this up.

For fucks sake, its not like he had blacks tied up in his backyard doing work for him...he said some hurtful things, lost some sponsorships and what not. He got banned, fined and condemned for his words; the selling of the team is separate for that so what is the justification behind forcing the selling of the team? He has already received punishment...

I am looking at this from both angles, which parties have the leverage in each situation. The NBA punished him and now they are separately trying to alienate him by forcing the sale of the team. He can argue that this is an abuse of power, punishment has already been doled out...I don’t know

I don’t agree with him but I also have an issue with a private organization being able to remove me from my vested interest without proper compensation at the least.
