In my experience, "chunky" tastes like shit because most MFG's use mainly tomato.... no one wants to chew on a huge ass tomato. Garden Fresh is a completely different story. Everything tastes as though it was just made couple days ago... It probably was, the expiration dates are pretty short. I can only find it at Kroger, but I live in the boondocks.

    Seconded.

Target carries a fresh made "hot" Archer Farms salsa that will blow the balls off a charging rhino at 50 yards

I will not eat any of that other shit. I've never liked salsa until i found these.

You can find the magaritaville stuff at Market basket where ever that is. I actually think they bought jacks as i cant find it anymore and it tastes the same.

I just tried the WalMart Chipotle Garlic. This would be my top salsa if not for the sugar added to give it a tad too much sweetness. I love the garlic & raw onion flavor that goes with the decent spiciness it has.

I'm still looking for that perfect store bought salsa.

I just tried the El Fenix salsa and it's ok. It's got a good kick, which is a plus, but I'm not a fan of salsa that has that Taco seasoning flavor. That's the reason why I hate On the Boarder salsa.

I prefer the taste of raw onion, cilantro, garlic, with an intense kick of jalapeƱo in mine. I might have to start making my own again.

Homemade salsa is the best, not too many restaurants get it right.

Waiting patiently for BCOOP's recipe, when it comes to food this guy knows his shit......

    Agreed.

I'll post up my homemade recipe when I get home.

My wife has started making fresh salsa. We've got like three different kinds in the fridge and we put the stuff on everything

I was going to start a salsa thread, but after a quick search.......

I've been meaning to post this for sometime. I typically judge a mexican eatery by the quality of their salsa. The best I've found is a little place in Ft. Worth called La Familia....made fresh daily.

That being said, my alternate favorite is the Marketside (Walmart brand...in the fresh veggie area) Chipotle Garlic Salsa. And before I get railed, it's the freshest....chunkiest....most flavorful salsa I've found anywhere. I'll eat it alone with a spoon sometimes.

If you really like salsa, I highly recommend it.

You gotz to have some garlic too.

I've tried every one of the kinds above, and I'm really not too hot on any of them compared to homemade.

If I feel like buying salsa instead of making it, I just go by a mexican restaurant that makes it fresh every day or two. For less than the price of a jar of supermarket salsa, you can get a twice as much(or more) salsa and a huge bag of fresh tortilla chips(fresh chips beat the hell out of any brand at the grocery store). It does depend on the place though, as some mexican joints serve some really awful salsa.

I'm pretty sure you can get El Fenix salsa anywhere. They definitely have it at my local Albertson's and I am pretty sure they have it at my nearest Kroger, and maybe even Walmart. I'd be surprised if it wasn't at Tom Thumb.
