That might be a dangerous combo... I already have a hard enough time saying no to CJ about doing certain mod's to mine, and I live 200 miles away.

Bob, spend money on this, Bob do that,...

Sounds like my TJ when I bought it. Got it from an old couple in San Marcos. Drove down with the fiance to pick it up in her car and we drove them both back. Kinda risky I guess going down to pick up a vehicle and trusting it to get you all the way home, but it did great!

Damn thats a good looking CJ! A 1976 CJ7 was what made me fall in love with Jeeps to begin with. I had a Honda Accord for practicality and MPG purposes. I went with my then-g/f (now fiance) to visit her parents. Family friend had the CJ, they offered to let me cruise around town in it for the day and that sealed it. Accord went up for sale shortly thereafter and I have my 2000 TJ. Yea its not a classic like the CJ but I needed something reliable with good road manners (relatively speaking). I love my TJ, really nothing I can see that would ever make me get rid of it, except maybe all of the gas on earth being used up lol.

Once I get to my next base I want to give a swing at building a motor up from an older used block, get some stroker internals, clean up the head. I know its a well designed motor to begin with, but polishing the head couldn't hurt. Plus it would be nice to throw a 6sp in it!

sorry can't resist, here is a pic from the day the CJ went away. I may be a puss, but I literally had a tear in my eye when it left.

This thread makes me sad! I sold my CJ this past summer when I got laid off to help with bills. The only vehicle I truly miss. I also agree about the 4.0 and the XJ. My 96 XJ had 240k when I rolled it. Only issues I had was a radiator and a CPS sensor. Properly maintained I think a 4.0 will run forever.

Yeah I was going to sell it because I lost my job but I got a really good oilfield job so we are keeping it. I also had a fender flare fly off on the highway once. LOL.

Chrysler...so you know it's a POS. That's the second time I ripped that thing off....last one flew off on I-35 near Georgetown.

I was able to get it back on though...even though I apparently ran over it at least 3 times.

I don't need four doors, that's why I like those JK-8's. Especially the yellow one I posted. I'm a complete newb when it come's to jeep chassis, not sure which one to look into for my needs. I'd want to drive it daily, and it would see some work, and off road fun, so auto and 4x4, possibly 3" lift.
    Thanks

Despite what some old school Jeepers will say, the JK is an excellent platform. The fact a 4 door was available is what made me get one. I have 86K miles on this thing and beat the shit out of it. I ran two years on just 2" lift, 35's, 4.88s and lockers and I ran everywhere from Clayton, Superlift, Moab, Palo Duro and K2 with little to no issues. I don't run baby trails and most the guys I'm following are on 40s.

Until 2012, the auto tranny leaves much to be desired. I almost traded mine in for a 2012 just for the auto tranny (I run a 6 speed manual right now - I'm getting lazy in my old age rock crawling with it). Has a new 3.6L too with more power, but I've geared for what I need.

Outside of a buggy, I think an LJ is the best compromise for wheeling. Longer wheelbase than the TJ, but not as long as mine.

JKowners.com is a good resource for JK info. JK-forum.com has some good tech stuff, but the mods are Nazis and they've blacklisted a lot of good manufacturers. Pirate4X4.com for anything else. Local boards LSJC.org and TexasJK.com if you want to get out and do shit.
