I think the rule of thumb is your shot skill set is reduced by 50% of what your skill is on the range when under stress.

I would have shot his ass too.

But at the same time it seems like incredibly poor execution for the cop walking behind him to ever be within striking distance.

How big a target is the leg? Compare that to the chest.

And, even if you did shoot someone in the leg, if you hit the femoral artery the guy is dead within minutes due to bleeding out.

Cops aren't marksmen. Esepcially under stress. Don't believe the movies or video games that you can "choose your shot" because your can't. You aim at the biggest thing that's moving the least and pull the trigger til you are sure you hit it and the threat has stopped.

If you have to apply force, go all out until the situation is resolved.

Even though you say "srs", not sure if srs.

I betting after a shot or two to the leg, the cops could have taken control of the situation from that point. If it was a gun he pointed at the cop, I would understand.
In hi-stress situations, you aim for the biggest target so you can end the threat quickly.

    Leg shots are a myth.

when i was in high school me and a friend came across a guy pcp'd out of his mind, he was in the median on his hands and knees eating grass with his car parked running in the middle of east grand

also some crackhead got a hold of some pcp and broke into my grandmas house. luckily my cousin lives next door and put two .357 magnums in his chest... my cousin tried to get him to just leave but he reached for a pistol he had in his waistband. bad idea

Haha I know in the CHL class I took a few months back, they told us to give someone CPR if we had to drop them afterwards...

The first five shots turned him around. The next five put him down.

I don't think that kid was actually going to hit the officer, I think he was check-swinging to try and get him to back off. Kind of a natural defense move to try and create some distance. But, I understand why the other cop had to shoot him and can't fault him for it.

I put forth that same question a couple weeks ago and was informed that it is on the comeback, fwiw.

<---never seen it or knew anyone who used it (to my knowledge) either...

It just seems it was a pissed off young kid thinking "it won't happen to me" but he was clearly wrong. You don't threaten anyone when they have a gun pointed at your head.

I expect death to be a last resort if you don't have a beast that wants nothing other than to taste human flesh.
If normal joe citizen did that and did not have the convenience of reliable witnesses or video they would be in a world of shit.
