z28 vs. boss 302 LS

I wouldn't pay the large prices for premium pony cars either way. They all have good performance and stupid plastic interiors. For that kinda money, I'd buy a good project platform, save on a loan and monthly payment and just slowly build a car that I can have fun with "forever". A 40k Boss??? $50-65k Camaro, Shelby? Sheeeeesh, that's a lot. But of course I'm 41 with 3 kids. I'd rather have a CTS-V

Most people in this thread arguing can't drive either car even close to its full potential if their life depended on it.

Mustang vs Camaro threads
I love these type threads. There is always so much exaggerating of the #'s on both sides. First "it's only 4sec. faster" the guy in the video said atleast meaning at minimum. In the same video it is clearly 5.3 seconds faster same track same day. Second the Z/28 is 20k or 30k more than the LS 302. The boss LS base msrp was 49,900. No way that's a 70k or 80k Camaro. Not picking on anyone. I know people want to defend their purchase or preference in automobile. I'll even play that game, my 11 yr old c5 z06 still does everything better than both those cars except carry 4 people.
I am really curious about the final price I don't see GM pricing it close to a c7 z51 which I'm sure is faster in every way.

I agree Matt. Maybe ford should step up and say we have a car for you to run. ShrugsOriginally posted by MattB View PostIf you say the Z28 is a "track car", then why not compare it to a Boss 302 "S"? Not too much more in price, and if you look hard enough you can find one for $75k. It isn't street legal, but it will do everything a new z28 will do, and it already has a nice cage, 6 point belts, etc!
I'm guessing as the Z/28 is a track car gm compares it to others since you can order it with an a/c and a radio even if it has only 1 speaker in the car.

C'mon Rodney, I know what four seconds per lap looks like. Put the Camaro on 255s and 285s and let's see what the lap times look like. That's my point, the Camaro is basically a race car with a VIN (titanium rods!) and has a lot of good hardware. It's MSRP is also $20k more than the Boss 302 LS, so I'm not going to take dollars out of the equation. If Ford comes up with a $90k Mustang to beat this thing, you can bet your ass you'll hear GM guys talking about the sticker.Originally posted by naynay View Postdude 4 seconds is an eternity... you'll be 2-3 turns ahead, given the track.. thats A LOT of ground, and the 302 LS is the most track capable, so your +$20k factor can be taken out of the equation.
Sales for both of them are neck-and-neck, which is good considering the Mustang is on a nine year old platform. I think the 2015 car will sell well.Originally posted by 32vfromhell View PostFord would have to react quicker than that. The camaro sales have been very strong lately. Stronger than the mustangs.

well if the next generation mustang is truly 400 pounds lighter, that's a good place to start.

I think i read an article that analysts pointed that up to that the camaro had better color options, lol.Originally posted by 46Tbird View PostThe gauntlet has been dropped. And I'm sure Ford will respond in kind, but it may be a couple of years into the new S550 platform.
Maybe a 5.8L DI and a diet for 2016? Boss 351 anyone?
Who knows. It's a good time though.
Which is why Ford did some crazy new colors for 2013.

Why would the +$20K be taken out of the equation?
No way it takes any where near $20K for upgrades to the boss to make up the claimed 4 sec difference in lap times...
I'm disappointed in the performance of the Z/28 for how much it costs...

+ceramic brakes

+$20,000
I'm a little disappointed it's only 4 seconds faster on a 2-minute track, lol!
I'd like to have one, but that price tag is a little obnoxious.
