Wade Bowen has one of the best voices, his cover of "please come to Boston" is one of my favorite songs. Aaron Watson plays the best dancing music in the state short of Asleep at the Wheel. Never was a big Brandon Ryder fan as far as concert performance's go. My favorite was Cross Canadian Ragweed before they got too big to play at the smaller venues.

I know it's not Texas Country which is what everyone else is posting but Notchnate, a board member(at least I know he was in Canada) is Oh, Sleepers lead guitar player now. Probably one of the better metal bands to come out of Texas in the last decade."Any dog under 50lbs is a cat and cats are pointless." - Ron Swanson

I have had the pleasure of working with a lot of the big name acts in the Texas Music scene. Not so much the last 2 years, but before that I ran some local music venues and we were able to bring some pretty big names through the venue I ran in Commerce. Wade Bowen was one of the acts that rubbed me the wrong way. Great musician, great voice, though he was one of the few that shunned our patrons. We didn't sell out for his show (400 capacity), we only had about 200 people. After his show, he headed to the bus and we never saw him again. The other person to do that was Charlie Robison, he had a smaller crowd than Wade did. He played a Thursday night show and we closed at midnight. The merch guy had the booth packed up and headed to the bus by 11:55. As soon as the show was over Charlie was hot on his heels, never saw him again either.Originally posted by dee View PostWade Bowen has one of the best voices, his cover of "please come to Boston" is one of my favorite songs. I never really got into Whiskey Meyers. Once I heard that Cody Cannon got drunk and fell off the stage at Hanks in McKinney and someone else had to finish his show, I decided it wasn't worth going to see them. Roger is one of my favorite artists in the scene. He played one of our Thursday shows at the Mule in Commerce. I felt terrible for him, as we didn't even have 100 people in the bar and he put on one hell of a show. One of my best memories was from sound check that day. I was running around up stairs trying to get the A/C's defrosted while he was checking his mic and guitar. He played an acoustic version of Friday Night Fever (by george strait). Best song I've ever heard acoustic, everyone who was working the bar getting set up at the time stopped and was in awe. I keep telling myself next time I see him live I'm going to try and get him to play it...Originally posted by gearhead78 View PostCool... I will check out Whiskey Meyers. Creager's acoustic cover of jimmy Buffets "Pirate at 40" he released on a live album is one of his best. He always came down and mingled after shows around here, very down to earth guy. A few others that were fun to hang out with were Max Stalling (who sadly doesn't play around here too often), Django Walker was fun guy to hang out with and put on a great show but I haven't seen his act in years. The Ragweed guys were pretty nice when they played the smaller shows, last time I saw them was when Larry Joe Taylor fest was in Meridian. Band of Heathens, mickey and the motorcars, Reckless Kelly were nice to sit and have a few drinks with and visit always very friendly."It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand!"

I think he ended up making his way over here a few months ago. He's a pretty nice kid.Originally posted by jdgregory84 View PostI know it's not Texas Country which is what everyone else is posting but Notchnate, a board member(at least I know he was in Canada) is Oh, Sleepers lead guitar player now. It's funny how everyone knows that band and would turn out in droves but when it's just Cody Canada or the Departed it'll be 20 people. At the Dallas Brewfest last year my wife and I basically had a private show. There were literally 5 people counting us watching the band for the first 15 minutes. Granted it was a very poorly ran festival but still, it was Cody Canada!Originally posted by dee View PostMy favorite was Cross Canadian Ragweed before they got too big to play at the smaller venues.

Not that I did not like Ragweed, I like it better to go see just Cody. No Ragweed on the bill and it weeds out the douchebags, they flocked to Ragweed shows for some reasons.Originally posted by BP View PostIt's funny how everyone knows that band and would turn out in droves but when it's just Cody Canada or the Departed it'll be 20 people. Prob my all time fav from Cody and Stoney -
One of the best shows I have been to was Rogers and Bowen acoustic, "Hold My Beer and Watch This Tour"

I think Watson is the best, total package in Country period, not just "Texas Country", though he refuses to sell out to Nashville.Originally posted by dee View PostAaron Watson plays the best dancing music in the state short of Asleep at the Wheel. Rhyder is still in my rotation. I have about 200 songs on an SD card in my truck that I probably have not updated in 2-3 years, still have not gotten tired of them!

He is a very talented musician and song writer. It will take time for his new stuff to catch on, although one of our local radio stations have been playing his stuff.Originally posted by BP View PostIt's funny how everyone knows that band and would turn out in droves but when it's just Cody Canada or the Departed it'll be 20 people. Some the best stuff I've seen is when he and other guys get up and play stuff either as a group or acoustic. Him and Boland were good as well as Stoney and Edmondson. The Rogers/Bowen acoustic show was bad ass they played a gig up here but the shitty part was they played on a Tuesday night.
Local paper had an article about Aaron Watson that was pretty neat said he never wants to get to big for the bar stuff that way people can still dance and have a good time.Originally posted by Chopped54 View PostI think Watson is the best, total package in Country period, not just "Texas Country", though he refuses to sell out to Nashville.
