I've worn contacts since 1991/2 and have never had a pair of glasses. Good advice, I need to get some auto-darks.

I'm not wearing blue-blockers or flip downs. Maybe I can get some that are iridium and go red?

where I live there is no chance of getting somewhere rural to hide out. I'm more concerned about taking ammo over food because the bugout location has both and if I can't get there, I'll most likely not live long enough to need it. If it really gets bad here there is going to be a bloodbath. Hopefully I can get to the bug out or hideout at home until the population dwindles.

Unfortunately I think the fallout will happen slow at first. During the ice storm I could not find gas at any gas station. I got to thinking if we run out of gas for whatever reason, everything else will start to spiral downward.

Obviously, I need to at least get a bag started.

For all that have significant others, or kids that are carrying a pack, I'd get a water purification straw for each bag.

I'd also add at least one sharpening stone, the lightest that does a decent job.

For many of us in DFW, just getting away from the Obama voters without expending a great deal of ammo will be a challenge. I know which direction I'd head, and luckily I'm on the edge of this center of chaos that DFW will become.

I need to set up a bug out bag. Right now I would have my XDSC .40 and my AR. 8 loaded mags for the AR 2 mags for the .40 and 150 rnds of each in a back pack along with med supplies and dry goods. My significant other would have the XDS 9mm and the AR pistol and 100 rnds for each.

                  My BOB needs work...

Gun wise i would choose a 9mm, a 45 and the AR15 and Saiga 12. mostly because i think 9mm and 45 are fairly common.. WAY more likely to find some random guy with that ammo then say my 10mm.

The bug out thing really depends on if you are walking or driving. Could fit a decent amount of stuff in the back of the wifes Expy that almost always has a full tank of gas in it. could get at least 300-400 miles away. If it was a Zombie apocalypse scenario.. i would head to the Costco down the road from me. that place is FORTIFIED... lots of supplys... good vantage point and visibility on the roof..

                    and obviously my 2 dogs

Man, I did not realize how crazy it can get until our water line froze earlier this year. We drink filtered water from the fridge and I guess it got cold enough that the line froze and we could not get water from the fridge for about 3 days.

Well, we both refused to drink from the tap much less make baby bottles from the tap water so we were stuck buying bottles for $2 ea.

I quickly realized, had this been a "situation"; we would have been in a spot. So today I was browsing around and found a few things that interested me and thought I would share:

Lifestraw Go (basically a Life Straw with a bottle)
Vertex Backpacking Stove (sturdy platform to set a pan on)
Brunton Hydrogen Reactor (can provide small amounts of power, so thought this was also cool.)

Or I guess for less permanent "situations"

Dark Energy Reservoir (charges your cell for up to a week)

Honestly though, I would not have a clue other than head up north to my stepfathers family in Groom Texas, small town, bunch of outdoorsmen and probably my families best chance of survival if a situation were to occur and I am not prepared.

Try reading it in a less "literal" sense perhaps

I realized how quickly the water supply could dry up, buying bottles is only feasible if there are bottles to buy and even then they are expensive...

I'll be pretty upset if I don't at least get a bite of that Milky Way.
